Intersection in south Chilliwack closed after driver fatally strikes pedestrian

The Chilliwack RCMP is investigating two incidents, separated by less than 24 hours, of pedestrians dying after being struck by drivers.

The intersection of Vedder Road and Promontory Road in south Chilliwack was temporarily closed in all directions Tuesday afternoon while police investigated a collision that killed one man.

The RCMP says officers were called to the area around 2:40 p.m.

“Investigators have identified the vehicle and the driver is cooperating,” said Mounties.

Police said the intersection would likely remain closed into the evening hours.

“Please plan an alternate route and avoid the area,” said Staff Sgt. Layne Penner.
