Woman hospitalized after driver strikes pedestrian in Burnaby

A woman is in hospital, and a section of Imperial Street in Burnaby is closed Wednesday afternoon after a driver struck a pedestrian.

The Burnaby RCMP says the collision occurred around 1:15 p.m.

While details remain limited, Mounties report, “The pedestrian has been transported to the hospital with what appear to be serious, but currently unknown, injuries.”

Images from the scene show a dump truck stopped behind police tape.

A witness in the area tells CityNews she saw a woman lying in the road after the collision, where an off-duty nurse was performing CPR and checking the victim’s pulse.

The witness says the woman was in and out of consciousness before paramedics arrived. Police have not confirmed those details.

BC Emergency Health Services says two ambulances attended the scene and one person was taken to hospital in “stable condition.”

1130 NewsRadio has reached out to the Burnaby RCMP for more information.

As police investigate, Imperial Street remains closed between Hersham and Humphries Avenue, with the closure expected to last “several hours into the evening.”

Drivers are advised to use Elwell or Burris streets to avoid the area.
