B.C. man who loses testicle after hernia surgery sues doctor
The Burnaby man told the surgeon that he was worried about the testicle and was told it would take two months to descend, the lawsuit said.

Nadir Trough was operated on by Dr. Gregory Polyakov in March 2023, according to the lawsuit filed in B.C. Supreme Court.
He reported to the nurse after the surgery that “he awoke with his left testicle missing,” but he was assured by Polyakov that “it would descend, as the area needed to be ‘pulled up’ due to what Dr. Polyakov called a ‘congenital defect,’” it said.
At a followup with the surgeon two weeks later, Trough told him he was worried about the testicle and was told it would take two months to descend, the lawsuit said.
He said there was no change after following the advice to do specific exercises for three months, at which time Polyakov referred him to a urologist because the testicle would not descend since it was above the sutures, the lawsuit alleges.
More than seven months after the operation, a urologist confirmed the testicle was in the inguinal canal and further surgery would be necessary to fix or remove it, and a subsequent sonogram showed “there is no left testicle identified,” according to a medical report.
Two months later, an ultrasound showed the testicle was “atrophic,” it said.
In April 2024, more than a year after the operation, Trough was still experiencing pain, and he was told by a fourth doctor in December there is a higher risk of cancer with an undescended testes, according to the claim.

Then “negligent treatment” by the defendant caused the plaintiff to suffer permanent injury and physical deformity, resulting in ongoing pain, loss of enjoyment of life, psychological injury and loss of capacity to earn income, it said.
He will need further surgery and requires treatment for anxiety and depression, according to the claim.
Trough, a delivery driver who is qualifying to become a dentist, alleges Polyakov performed the surgery in a negligent manner, failed to take reasonable care in examining and assessing him, and failed to respond appropriately to his complaints after the surgery.
None of the allegations have been proven in court.
Messages left with Polyakov and with Trough were not returned.
