16-year-old arrested after taxi driver stabbed in Downtown Eastside

The Vancouver Police Department says it’s investigating an alleged stabbing of a taxi driver in the Downtown Eastside on Tuesday night.

In a statement to 1130 NewsRadio, Sgt. Steve Addison says the incident happened around 9:30 p.m. at Main and East Hastings streets.

According to police, an off-duty officer witnessed the stabbing and alerted nearby on-duty police.

The taxi driver, a 59-year-old, was taken to hospital and treated for a non-life-threatening injury, Addison says.

A 16-year-old boy from Richmond was taken into custody and now faces charges of aggravated assault.
