A nine-year-old child has been taken to hospital in life-threatening condition after being hit by a large commercial cube van Friday afternoon, the Surrey Police Service (SPS) says.
Emergency crews were called to 81st Avenue near 134th Street just after 2:30 p.m.
“The child suffered serious, life-threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital with critical injuries where life-saving measures continue,” police said.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. Impairment is not believed to be a factor, and the driver is cooperating with police, the SPS says.
Police say 81st Avenue will be closed between King George Boulevard and 134th Street “for several hours” while officers investigate.
Pictures from the scene show that police tape has been put up and multiple officers are in the area.
Police weren’t able to say how long the closure will last, and drivers are advised to avoid the area and find alternate routes.
