Chilliwack RCMP said it happened shortly after 3 p.m. on a trail near a dog park at Island 22.
The weather at the time was severe and unpredictable, with high winds and heavy rain. Environment and Climate Change Canada had issued a wind alert earlier that day, with winds of up to 80 kilometres an hour expected.
RCMP said there were other people on the trail that came to the aid of the woman and called 911. Paramedics tried to save her life but she died.
The children were not physically harmed and are safe with family, according to police.
The B.C. Coroners Service is investigating.
RCMP say the family has requested privacy and it will not be releasing the woman’s name.
Island 22 Regional Park, which is a 1.3 square kilometres in size, was closed to the public on Monday and Tuesday.
Environment Canada is continuing a special weather statement for wind for Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley, saying strong winds are expected near midnight and into Wednesday.
