A social media post shared by the local outpost of the doughnut chain showed lineups of Vancouverites eagerly grabbing the slim white boxes full of a sugary treats.
“We handed out hundreds of dozens (a touch more than we promised!) to everyone who waited near by our new café!” the Instagram post declared.
Located at 519 West Broadway, the café outpost officially opened on Tuesday with a promise to give away 12 golden tickets to the first people in line. Those tickets were redeemable for a free dozen Original Glazed doughnuts every month — for a year.

The promise of free weekly doughnuts drew a lineup that reportedly numbered more than 50 people and started the night before the opening.
A Krispy Kreme loyal named Jason started the line at 7 p.m. on Monday, according to store representatives. An additional 10 people joined the line by 11 p.m.
“The response has been incredible — from the enthusiasm around yesterday’s doughnut giveaway to the excitement at this morning’s café opening,” said Kelcey Hamaker, co-CEO of Krispy Kreme Canada. “We’re so excited to be here and to officially welcome Vancouver to Krispy Kreme Canada.”
A smaller-footprint shop on the busy commuter corridor, the new Krispy Kreme location will not be a hub of donut making. Instead, the new location will receive deliveries of fresh baked goods twice a day from the Krispy Kreme location in Delta at 7153 120 St.
The first Krispy Kreme location to open in B.C., the Delta location drew donut devotees when it opened 21 years ago in February 2004. That location marked the first Krispy Kreme in Western Canada.
According to Hamaker, there are further plans to expand “across the region.”
