The federal weather agency says up to 25 centimetres of snow is expected on the Sea to Sky Highway, from Brandywine to Whistler, by Wednesday evening.
Drivers are warned that travel will likely be challenging because of accumulating snow, and visibility may be reduced.
The agency says a frontal system approaching from Washington will bring snow to southwestern B.C. The snow began Wednesday morning and will intensify later in the day.
Snowfall amounts may reach up to 10 cm for the Fraser Canyon, and 10 to 15 cm along stretches of the Coquihalla Highway from Hope to Kamloops.
The Coquihalla Highway was closed on Tuesday after several crashes but it has since reopened.
As for Metro Vancouver’s holiday forecast, it doesn’t look like there will be snow overnight on Christmas Eve, but residents at higher elevations could see a few flakes overnight on Christmas and into Boxing Day morning.
Overnight Wednesday, there’s a 60 per cent chance of showers and a low of 1 C followed by rain and a high of 7 C on Christmas.
Then there’s a chance of rain or snow on Thursday night, with a low of 2 C. For Boxing Day, the forecast calls for rain or snow and a high of 4 C.
Heading into the weekend, Metro Vancouver residents can expect a mix of sun and cloud on Saturday, with highs of 4 C, and then it’s back to showers Sunday and possible snowflurries overnight.
