A convicted sex offender is wanted Canada-wide after leaving his Downtown Eastside halfway house on Wednesday morning.

Dean Robert Merrick, 58, is serving an 18-year sentence for sexual offences, and had been living at the halfway house after being released from jail on a long-term supervision order.

Merrick left the halfway house shortly before 9:30 a.m. to attend an appointment on Commercial Drive but didn’t return, according to a news release from Vancouver police.
Merrick is 6-foot-2 and around 200 pounds. He is bald, with brown greying hair on the sides and has blue eyes. He may be wearing a black jacket over a white t-shirt, green cargo pants, a black baseball cap, and grey and black running shoes.
Merrick has several tattoos, including a flag and a cowboy on his left arm.
