Police investigating two separate shootings in Surrey

Surrey police say the first shooting is not related to extortion-related crime. The motive for the second shooting is under investigation.

Police are investigating two separate shootings in Surrey on Thursday night and early Friday morning.

At about 11:45 p.m. Thursday, shots were fired inside a home near 140B Street and 59 Avenue in the Newton area.

A man with a gunshot wound was taken to hospital in stable condition, according to the Surrey Police Service.

A second man was arrested at the scene. Investigators do not believe the shooting is connected to recent extortion crime.

Meantime, the RCMP Surrey provincial operations support unit is investigating a shooting in North Surrey at 12:30 a.m. on Friday.

Police say shots were fired in the area of 109A Avenue and 158 Street. A witness told police there was a distraught man at the door.

Officers detained the man. They located bullet casings and damage to two vehicles and two homes. There are no reports of injuries.
