RCMP says shots fired in Langley Township are extortion-related

Police are investigating after a shooting in Langley Township Thursday morning.

The Langley RCMP says officers responded to reports of shots fired in the area of 232 Street near 69 Avenue around 5 a.m.

“Investigators believe the suspects arrived in a dark coloured sedan and fled the area immediately following the incident,” said a police statement before 11 a.m.

Based on initial evidence, Mounties believe the incident is related to extortion.

“Investigators are liaising with partner agencies and working to determine possible linkages to other investigations,” said Sgt. Zynal Sharoom.

No one was reported injured, and police say there is no current risk to the public.
