New West police said an officer conducting patrols at about 3 a.m. in the 100-block of Columbia Street found a man with gunshot wounds lying on the ground.
He was taken to hospital in critical condition, according to B.C. Emergency Health Services.
Columbia Street was closed between 4th Street and McBride Boulevard for several hours Friday morning.
