Upon arrival, officers found the teenager unconscious and bleeding.
Paramedics transported the victim to the hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
RCMP say the driver of the vehicle didn’t remain on the scene.
“Failing to remain at the scene after a collision is a serious offence,” said Constable Rae Hu, Richmond RCMP Serious Crime Unit.
Mounties say that the hit-and-run followed an altercation near the roadway, and police are also investigating an alleged assault causing bodily harm in relation to that altercation.
The Richmond RCMP Serious Crime Unit has taken over both investigations.
“Our investigation, which is in its very early stages, does indicate that that particular victim was struck by a motor vehicle following this altercation, and this vehicle did not remain at the scene, and therefore we are looking for an outstanding vehicle,” said Richmond RCMP Sgt. Pak Yim.
Investigators believe that the victim was hit by a dark 2014 to 2019 Ford Fiesta, which, because of the incident, might be damaged at the front end of the vehicle.
Mounties are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage to contact the Richmond RCMP at 604-278-1212.
Police say they are aware of a number of videos purporting to show the incident posted to social media, but said they couldn’t confirm the authenticity of those videos.
The videos show a victim involved in a fight, a group of people running across the street, throwing punches, before one of them is hit by a car.
“There were a lot of individuals involved with regard to the original altercation,” Sgt. Yim.
“Our investigation is still ongoing, which includes talking to all the witnesses that might have been involved.”
