Family of 4 displaced after house fire in Surrey’s Whalley neighbourhood

A family of four has been displaced after a fire in a home in Surrey’s Whalley neighbourhood.

Surrey Fire and Rescue Service received a report of a structure fire in the area of 127A Street and 103 Avenue Sunday afternoon.

“Crews arrived, and there was a significant amount of black smoke and fire … through the front door,” Assistant Fire Chief McNamara said.

“So crews got on scene quickly and managed to knock down the fire quickly.”

He says the fire did not spread to neighbouring homes, and it has been completely extinguished.

McNamara says some family members were home when the fire started, but they were outside by the time crews arrived.

“A couple experienced some minor burns, but nothing significant,” he said.

The home itself was badly damaged.

“The house is uninhabitable at this point.”

The cause of the fire will be investigated, McNamara says.
