David Alexander Jones is having another slow day at his frame shop, but it isn’t due to a slow framing season.
Rather, it’s parking that’s been affecting his business.

“The number one complaint of residents is that there’s nowhere to park. We will just go somewhere else, and that’s really affecting all of us, the independent businesses that make up Ambleside and Dundarave,” David Alexander Jones, owner of Jones&Company Bespoke Picture Framers, told CityNews.
Paid parking was implemented in September 2025 and is in effect from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., seven days a week.
Since then, the Ambleside Dundarave Business Improvement Association (BIA) has reported businesses in the area are seeing up to a 30 per cent decrease in revenue.
“There is no other park in the Lower Mainland that offers everything Ambleside Park offers that is that close to a commercial area,” said Maureen O’Brien, executive director at the Ambleside Dundarave BIA.
“Where you see people park their car and unpack their chairs and everything, and walk to the park, and meanwhile, we have got people trying to come by and pick up their paintings. And that they just can’t find anywhere to park,” Jones argued.
The parking fee was recently reduced to $2,50 per hour from the more than $5 it was originally, but it’s not enough for business owners who have seen thousands of dollars in lost revenue.
“If I don’t get a spot, I don’t stop,” said Patti Tracey, resident.
“I feel bad about these shop owners. You get to know them; it’s like a village.”
West Vancouver residents are able to apply for a free annual parking pass online, but finding a spot may be a challenge in West Vancouver.
