The Burnaby RCMP Traffic Services says this number amounts to 56 per cent of all inspected vehicles.

Together with 12 other law enforcement units in the Lower Mainland, Mounties conducted over 2,901 inspections in the previous year.
“These numbers continue to be very concerning and represent a real risk for everyone on the roads,” said Cst. Kevin Connolly, Burnaby RCMP’s designated commercial vehicle inspector.
Top offences include insecure cargo, bad brakes, and missing or incorrect paperwork.
“Another trend that we saw an increase in was impaired driving, whether it be drug or alcohol, among truck drivers,” Connolly added.
“And that’s not just at nighttime, that’s also frequently found drivers impaired right in the middle of the day.”
Connolly says it is a very concerning trend.

“Preventing crashes and preventing harm is one of the big aspects of these inspections, and part of that is educating the driver, explaining to them the things that are wrong in hopes that they will not repeat that behaviour,” Connolly explained.
In Burnaby alone, police took out of service 800 vehicles in 1,399 inspections.
Mounties say that targeted enforcement will continue this year.
