The former federal justice minister and member of Parliament for Vancouver Granville said on Monday that she had recently undergone surgery and would start treatment shortly.

“While this is scary and unsettling, I take strength from the many of you who have shared your stories of resilience and healing with me over the years. I am also so grateful to my surgeons and B.C. Cancer agency for their wonderful care,” Wilson-Raybould wrote in a social media post.

Wilson-Raybould, a lawyer, was elected as a federal Liberal in 2015 and was appointed attorney general in the Justin Trudeau government. She resigned from the Trudeau cabinet in 2019 after being shuffled out of her post and won a second term as an independent.

She did not run in the 2021 election and since then has written or co-authored four books.

Wilson-Raybould said she would continue working on a book about leadership she is co-writing with Victoria-based lawyer Roshan Danesh.

She is encouraging people to get regular mammograms and tests for other cancers and illnesses.
