Welling — a.k.a. Clark Kent, a.k.a. Superman — will revisit the 10 seasons of the hit series in a special limited-attendance, after-hours session. Welling will read iconic scenes and direct fans through key moments with some surprises in store. Tickets are $292.88 at fanexpohq.com.

First shown on The WB network in 2001, Smallville ran for 10 seasons and a total of 218 episodes. The pilot episode generated a viewing audience of 8.4 million and the viewer average over all seasons was over four million.

By the end of its run, Smallville had edged out Vancouver-filmed sci-fi series Stargate SG-1 as the longest-running North American science fiction/fantasy series.
The series was originally scheduled for filming in Australia, but then the decision was made to set up shop at BB Studios in Burnaby.
In the same way that the X-Files set the stage for B.C. as a go-to locale for filming thrillers with a particularly dark and moody ambience, it can be argued that Smallville was key to Hollywood North becoming a powerhouse for comic-book-inspired, young audience targeting productions.
From director Bryan Singer’s 2003 X-Men film to recent streaming series hits such as Riverdale and the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, the Lower Mainland has captured the essence of anywhere Middle America, as well as subbing in for major urban centres such as New York to Superman’s city of Metropolis.

The quaint farmland setting of Superman’s hometown in the coming-of-age Smallville narrative included the Kent Family Farm on the outskirts of town being provided by Aldergrove, while Buntzen Lake was floated as Smallville’s Crater Lake, a location that played a key part in one of the many side stories in the show.

The exterior shots for Smallville High School were all done at Vancouver Technical School while Templeton Secondary School was repainted red and yellow and served as the interior of Smallville High School.
Evil genius Lex Luthor’s base of operations was a combination of exterior shots of Hatley Castle in Victoria, while Shannon Mews on West 57th Avenue served for the interior shots. The whole main street of the fishing village of Steveston became Storybrooke, Maine, in a 2011 shoot.

Following the Smallville season finale, the story continued as a comic book. Many of the show’s cast have continued working in Hollywood North.
Vancouver-born and raised Kreuk went on to successes in the sci-fi series Beauty & The Beast and the lead role of Cassandra Lee in the CBC legal drama series Burden of Truth.
She appeared in the hit streaming series Reacher and, most recently, appeared in two seasons of the Global TV series Murder in a Small Town filmed in Gibsons on the Sunshine Coast. Fellow Smallville cast member Erica Durance appeared in an episode of the program in 2024.
Welling was featured in the locally shot series Lucifer and most recently appeared in director Josephine Decker’s 2026 dramedy Chasing Summer.
Today, Smallville continues to find fans online with streaming availability on Netflix and warnerbros.com. All seasons have also been packaged as DVDs.
