Police are investigating another fatal pedestrian accident in the Lower Mainland.

New West Police responded to a 911 call of a fatal collision between a pedestrian and driver in a parking lot on Boyd Street around 4:45 p.m. on Friday, after a witness reported she’d been struck by a car.

Police, New Westminster Fire and Rescue Services and B.C. Emergency Health Services arrived on scene, and the woman was transported to hospital. Investigators later learned the person had died.

The driver remained on scene and is co-operating with investigators, while the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service arrived to collect evidence. The New Westminster Major Crime Unit has assumed conduct of the investigation.

“As is the case with all fatal collisions, the Major Crime Unit has taken conduct of this investigation,” said Sergeant Andrew Leaver. “Police will be in the area for the next several hours.”

Officers are currently canvassing for CCTV and interviewing witnesses, and if there is anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage, you’re requested to phone New West PD at (604) 529-2430.

The accident comes just over a week after a man in his 80s was fatally hit by a flatbed truck in North Vancouver.
