Vancouver park board closes western section of Stanley Park Seawall for repairs

Two sections, making up most of the western edge of the Seawall in Vancouver’s Stanley Park, have closed this week as crews repair damage done by December storms.

Citing atmospheric rivers, the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation announced the closure of the waterfront path from south of Ferguson Point to Prospect Point, with a gap allowing access to Third Beach between.

“Third Beach is open and can be accessed via the parking lot,” said the board in a post to social media.

The closure will continue until early morning Friday, Jan. 30.

Sections of the Seawall closed for a week in late December after several days of heavy rains and high winds, and again for two days as “freezing and thawing conditions” continued.

The board is asking parkgoers to respect closure signage, avoid the area, and take the listed detours.
