Surrey police release photos of accused in firearm-related investigation

The Surrey Police Service (SPS) says it is releasing photos of two men charged in a firearm-related incident that took place Monday, hoping additional witnesses, victims, or associates will come forward to help with the investigation.

Police were called to the area of 129 Street and 84 Avenue just before 4 a.m., when they “heard what they believed was a gunshot,” it said in a news release Tuesday.

Officers stopped a suspect vehicle nearby and arrested the driver and a passenger. A loaded handgun was found and seized during the arrests.

The SPS released the names of the men: 20-year-old Harshdeep Singh, and 21-year-old Hanspreet Singh.

Harshdeep was later charged with one count of dangerous operation of a vehicle. Both he and Hanspreet have been charged with occupying a vehicle knowing a firearm was present.

More charges may be added, the SPS says.

Both men are foreign nationals, police said earlier this week.

Police haven’t said directly that the incident was related to extortion, but they included the phone number for the Surrey Extortion Tip Line (236-485-5149) with the photos.
