Residents in Mount Pleasant are already fed up, just a week into a four-month closure of a section of East Broadway.
The closure, which runs between Main and Quebec, has drivers detouring through normally-quiet side streets, and locals are not happy with the increased traffic.
One intersection that has been hit particularly hard is West 10th and Ontario, with vehicles navigating narrow streets and a traffic circle as they move through.
Those living in the area report bumper-to-bumper traffic and safety issues.
“Last night, taking the dog for a walk at 7 at night, it’s a parking lot out there, and people are honking their horns,” one local told CityNews.
“There are a lot of one-way streets or four-way stops on bike routes. We are seeing a lot of near misses of bikes not getting seen,” another said.
To make matters even worse, work is now being done on West 2nd Avenue, bringing traffic down to one lane in each direction.
The closure is in place to allow crews to work on the construction of the Broadway Subway.
