Vancouver police report that a Good Samaritan had stopped to help a person who appeared to be in distress near Granville Street and West 37th Avenue. After agreeing to drive the stranger to the police station, the would-be helper allegedly had a gun pulled on him once both were in the car.

The suspect forced the driver to leave the car and drove away, eventually hitting another car and then flipping the stolen vehicle onto its roof near Granville and Broadway.

An off-duty VPD officer witnessed the carjacking and helped arrest the suspect while other officers attended.

The unnamed 30-year-old suspect is currently in hospital and in police custody, while the victim had no serious  injuries.
