Mild weather in Metro Vancouver will not last into weekend

The stretch of mild weather in the Lower Mainland is coming to an end and will stop before the weekend starts.

1130 NewsRadio Meteorologist Carl Lam says temperatures, which have been notably warm for winter, will drop on Saturday.

“We will be about 7 to 9 degrees C through that stretch; it is not going to be all that warm,” Lam said.

He adds the drop in mercury comes with the return of rain on Saturday.

“And we do have some more chances for rain coming our way as we go through the first half of next week,” Lam said.

“It looks like the bulk of the rain will be here for Saturday morning, but we still can’t rule out a few showers for Saturday afternoon. There could be anywhere between 15 and 25mm of rain on the way for Saturday.”

Lam adds conditions will improve on Sunday, with a few breaks of sunshine.

Even with lower temperatures around the corner, Metro Vancouver might be on the brink of experiencing the first snow-free winter in 43 years, according to Environment Canada.

The province saw some record-high temperatures over the last few days, with the West Vancouver area setting a new record for Feb. 4 of 15.6 degrees C.

This temperature hike prompted Metro Vancouver to temporarily open the Grouse Grind on Wednesday.

Usually, the hiking trail opens between mid-April and mid-May.
