A Lamborghini SUV driver had to give up his car keys after police caught the vehicle going more than double the allowed speed on the Alex Fraser Bridge.
The BC Highway Patrol says that officers clocked the driver on Wednesday shortly after 8 p.m. at 197 km/h in a 70 km/h zone while the vehicle was travelling northbound on the bridge.

As a result of the excessive speeding, the driver was fined $483.
“Some drivers seem to think that bridges are free from speed enforcement. That is a foolish and dangerous assumption. Bridges are no strangers to deadly collisions,” said Cpl. Michael McLaughlin.
Police say that the driver is facing a seven-day impound of the car and at least three years of high-risk driver premiums with escalating insurance.

“Driving over double the speed limit is extremely dangerous to you, your passengers, and everyone around you,” McLaughlin added.
The vehicle was towed from the scene, with the driver carrying the costs.
The driver and two passengers were picked up by their families.
