A man was stabbed during a fight in Vancouver’s Kitsilano neighbourhood on Saturday night.

The attack came five nights after an 18-year-old man was stabbed following a basketball game at Vancouver’s Eric Hamber Secondary.

Vancouver Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Steve Addison said the latest stabbing occurred near the corner of West 7th Avenue and Vine Street. This is where the Kitsilano Neighbourhood House and its community pantry and fridge are located.

“Police were called shortly before 10 p.m. to reports of a fight. When officers arrived, they discovered a 41-year-old man who had been stabbed in the leg,” Addison said.

The victim was treated at hospital and a 61-year-old man was arrested. That man remains in custody.

Meanwhile, there was a police presence on Friday night at Killarney Secondary, where the Kitsilano Secondary and Churchill Secondary senior basketball teams faced off for the city championship.

Police were deployed after a basketball game between teams from Eric Hamber Secondary and Killarney Secondary on Monday night ended in a brawl among spectators from both sides. One man was stabbed and another struck by a bike chain.

Police have arrested five youths in this case. Those youths were discharged into the care of their guardians.
