Up to 30,000 people expected at protest in Yaletown, say Vancouver police

A massive demonstration against the current regime in Iran could see tens of thousands of protestors gather in downtown Vancouver Saturday.

Up to 30,000 people are expected at the Global Day of Action protest in Yaletown’s David Lam Park, the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) says.

Police say this is just one of five separate rallies taking place around the downtown core Saturday, so they are deploying dozens of extra officers to try to minimize disruptions.

“Officers will be deployed on bicycles, motorcycles, in vehicles, and on foot to manage crowds and to facilitate peaceful protests,” the VPD said.

Anyone travelling downtown should expect heavy delays and road closures.
