The Nanaimo RCMP says a 17-year-old boy has been charged after an alleged shooting on Feb. 11 that sent another teen to hospital.

The 15-year-old victim was treated and released from hospital and is now recovering, police say.

The suspect was arrested two days after the incident and has been charged with discharging a firearm with intent, aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, possessing a firearm without a licence, and possession of a firearm while being prohibited.

Police have not been able to find the alleged firearm.

“This was a significant and concerning incident involving youth violence in our community,” said Insp. Donovan Tait.

“Our investigators continue to work diligently to find the alleged firearm and to understand all circumstances surrounding this event.”
