Police say a 90-year-old woman out for a walk in New Westminster Sunday afternoon was attacked by a heavy-set suspect who ripped off her jewelry then shoved her to the ground.

New West police are trying to identify a suspect, described as 5-foot-11 and about 260 pounds, from security footage in the 1200-block of Dan Lee Avenue.

A Good Samaritan called 911 at around 1:45 p.m. on Feb. 15 after coming to the distressed woman’s aid.
The victim told police she was walking in the area when the stranger approached.
Investigators canvassed the area for security video that recorded the attack.
“Watching the CCTV footage was deeply disturbing,” said Sgt. Andrew Leaver. “A grown man used his strength and size against a 90-year-old woman. That is disgraceful and cowardly behaviour.”
The attacker was wearing a beige hoodie, grey pants, black shoes with white soles and a surgical mask.
Police also released a photo of a vehicle, a dark-coloured SUV, that the suspect was driving before the mugging.
