A warrant was eventually issued last Thursday after extensive investigation and observation by the street crime unit, and a search on the same day turned up prohibited weapons, several airsoft pistols, two batons, and cash as well as suspected crack cocaine and methamphetamine. The RV was towed at the owner’s expense, and a man and woman were arrested and released with court dates and court-ordered conditions.

First responders found two occupants of a loaded tractor trailer inside the cab of the truck down a steep embankment, having suffered fatal injuries. The accident, on the Alaska Highway near Summit Lake at the 605-kilometre mark, appears to have happened when the truck went through a guardrail before plunging down the slope. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Article content

“While the investigation is in its infancy, road conditions appear to have been a factor in the crash,” said RCMP Staff Sgt. Kris Clark. “Workers continue to extract the vehicle and its load from the embankment.”

Article content

The highway was closed in both directions during the investigation, but has since opened to alternating traffic as of Wednesday afternoon.

Anyone with information or dashcam video about the crash is asked to contact the Northern Rockies RCMP at 250-774-2700.
