TransLink is clearing the air after some confusion over whether some SkyTrain stations would close during FIFA World Cup match days in Vancouver.
Officials say Stadium–Chinatown and Yaletown–Roundhouse SkyTrain Stations will remain open on match days, although pedestrian access to BC Place from the stations will be closed off.

Spokesperson Jawn Jang says trains will continue to stop at both stations.
However, due to a secure event perimeter set up around BC Place, certain station exits will be restricted, and riders will be redirected to access the stadium through designated routes.
“During FIFA match days here in Vancouver, Stadium–Chinatown station, just the gate on the Expo Boulevard side — which is the side closest to Rogers Arena — that gate will be closed,” Jang said.
Jang says if you are using the Canada Line and are heading to a FIFA game, the easiest way to get to BC Place will be to get off at Waterfront Station, transfer to the Expo Line and get off at Main Street-Science World Station — then walk into the FIFA control zone.
TransLink also says it is boosting service during the tournament to handle the surge in demand.
The transportation authority plans to add about 600 additional bus trips and increase SkyTrain frequency before and after matches.
Trains will also run later into the evening on match days.
For matches with 9 p.m. kickoffs, riders will be able to catch the SkyTrain until 2:15 a.m.
Transit advocate Michelle Scarr with the advocacy group Movement says the added service is a positive step, especially with global attention on the city during the tournament.
However, she notes the Broadway Subway Project will not be completed in time for the games and argues more should be done to improve reliability.
“For Expo 86, we got a brand new SkyTrain Line — the very first one, the Expo Line. At the 2010 Olympics, we got the Canada Line. For FIFA, [the] Broadway SkyTrain is delayed until 2027, which I understand is not fully in the city’s or TransLink’s control. But something that is within their control is to deliver bus lanes,” Scarr said.
Scarr is calling on the city and TransLink to add more dedicated bus lanes, calling it the “second best” option to move people efficiently while major rapid transit expansion remains unfinished.
