The New Westminster Police Department (NWPD) is out with a warning for residents after “suspicious glue markings” were discovered on several doors in an apartment building.
Residents of the multi-family building, located on 11th Street near Queens Avenue, reported finding small strands of glue placed between the doors and their frames.

According to the NWPD, the glue is used to identify vacant apartments.
“When a resident opens the door, the glue breaks,” police said.
“If the strand remains intact, it may signal that no one is home, and the suite could be targeted for a break-and-enter.”
The glue was found on the doors of several units on nine different floors of the building.
NWPD Sgt. Andrew Leaver says it was the Vancouver Police Department that initially raised the alarm about this crime trend.
“Residents here in New Westminster read that information, talked with their neighbours, and then checked their own building,” Leaver said.
Police encourage residents to check for unusual markings or materials like tape or glue placed near their doors.
Anyone who believes their home may have been targeted by this crime is asked to call the NWPD at 604-525-5411.
