Police investigating shooting death in Lumby

Police say they are investigating after a fatal shooting in Lumby, a village in the North Okanagan region.

Members of the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP responded to a report of shots fired on Schwartz Road shortly before 4:30 p.m. on March 3.

When they arrived, they found 60-year-old Corey Ott suffering from a gunshot wound.

“Ott was transported to hospital where he underwent surgery for his injuries,” the RCMP said in a news release.

“On March 6, 2026, while at hospital, Ott died.”

A suspect was arrested shortly after police responded to the call but was released without charges, police say.

The BC RCMP Southeast District Major Crime Unit has taken over the investigation.

Investigators are asking members of the public who may have dash cam or CCTV footage from the Lumby area on March 3 between 12 p.m. and 8 p.m. to reach out to police.

As well, anyone who had any communication or dealings with Corey Ott, either on March 3 or in the days leading up to it, is asked to call the Southeast District Major Crime Unit Information line at 1-877-987-8477.
