State of emergency declared for part of Fraser Valley

The Fraser Valley Regional District (FVRD) has declared a state of local emergency for Electoral Area E due to increased risks of flooding, landslides, mudslides, and overbanking creeks.

This comes as the BC River Forecast Centre has upgraded a high streamflow advisory to a flood watch in the area.

The FVRD says the situation poses an “existing or imminent threat to people and property.”

It isn’t clear how long the state of emergency will remain in effect. For now, board chair Patricia Ross says it will be in place until April 2 unless it is cancelled by the FVRD or the Ministry of Emergency Management.

The last state of emergency in the area was declared Dec. 10, 2025, also during an atmospheric river event. This was in place until well into January.

The FVRD says sand and sandbags are available at several locations. Residents are advised to bring their own shovels.

Electoral Area E covers more than 650 square kilometres and is home to over 1,500 residents.
