Vancouver police cruiser appears crushed after crash; 2 taken to hospital

Two people have been taken to hospital after a crash involving a Vancouver Police Department (VPD) cruiser on Granville Street near West 13th Sunday morning, the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA) tells CityNews.

The VPD says it was responding to a crime in progress in the area when the cruiser was involved in a crash with another vehicle. The cruiser then hit a power pole, knocking down overhead power lines.

“The officers were treated for non-life-threatening injuries,” police said.

“The driver of the other vehicle was not injured.”

The cruiser appears to be completely crushed, according to callers and photos taken at the scene.

The PHSA says it was called shortly before 4:30 a.m.

“Paramedics provided emergency medical treatment to three patients on scene,” it said.

“Two patients were transported to hospital in stable condition.”

Images show the front end of the vehicle to be extremely damaged.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, police say.
