Interim Leader Trevor Halford says Chan informed him of the charges Wednesday, and claims no one in the party had any prior knowledge of them.
The BC Prosecution Service (BCPS) says Chan has been charged with assault, assault by choking, and uttering threats for offences that allegedly took place on Jan 12, 2024.
Records show he is scheduled to appear in a Richmond court on April 22 with the file number 69728-K. The BCPS uses ‘K’ to identify files of intimate partner violence or domestic assault.

Halford says the Conservatives took action immediately.
“Our caucus wishes to be clear, any allegations of domestic violence are taken seriously. Anyone who experiences it deserves to know that people in positions of public trust will be held to the highest standard of accountability.”

In a statement to OMNI News, Chan’s office says he was made aware of the claim.
“He disagrees with the allegation and looks forward to defending himself through the legal process. He will continue to cooperate fully with the police and the court process.”
