Surrey Police Service (SPS) officers were called to the home on 32B Avenue near 144th Street shortly after 11 a.m. after a report that armed individuals had entered.

“SPS received calls that there was a home invasion essentially in progress,” SPS media liaison Ian MacDonald tells 1130 NewsRadio.
“We learned upon arrival that individuals had both attended and quickly departed after pushing their way inside a residence, where we found a 65-year-old woman suffering from serious injuries.”
MacDonald says the injuries were consistent with having been struck by an object.
“Obviously we believe that object was wielded by the suspects that attended,” he said.

MacDonald says the crime was “absolutely disturbing,” and the motives are unknown.
“This on the surface looks like it was targeted in terms of, these individuals showed up at this specific residence,” he said.
“We don’t at this time know what their motive was specifically or if they targeted the right residents.”
Right now, he says, the focus is on getting medical treatment for the victim.
The incident does not have the “earmarks” of being related to extortion, MacDonald says, but it is too early to say for certain.
Anyone with information is asked to call SPS’s non-emergency line at 604-599-0502 and refer to file number 26-28314 (SP).
