Environment Canada is out with a warning for drivers along the Coquihalla Highway.

The government service says that snowfall starting Saturday afternoon could cause winter driving conditions for Allison Pass, Pennask Summit, Coquihalla Highway, and Rogers Pass.

“Falling snow levels in combination with upper-level instability and moisture will bring the possibility of snowfall accumulations,” Environment Canada said.

It adds that the weather in the mountains can change suddenly, creating hazardous driving conditions.

Drivers are urged to be careful and allow for extra travel time between Hope and Merritt.

Environment Canada says that the snowfall could last until Sunday morning.

If you are driving along the road, be sure to wish it a happy birthday as the Coquihalla Highway turns 40 years old this weekend.
