The B.C. Conservation Officer Service says Wing Kam Lau pleaded guilty to hunting moose not within the open season in 2022, and failing to complete the compulsory report of the kill, both violations under the Wildlife Act.

In B.C., moose hunting season generally runs from early September through early November, but dates vary by location and hunting method.

An investigation began following complaints about a partial bull moose carcass being found covered on Klua Lake road, according to a COS post on social media.

The investigation led to charges and a conviction at the Fort Nelson provincial court.

Kam Lau’s sentence included a $6,998 fine payable to the Habitat Conservation Trust Foundation, a three-year prohibition from hunting anywhere in B.C., and forfeiture of all seized wildlife parts.

The COS asks anyone who spots illegal activity associated to hunting, fishing or polluting to call the RAPP Line at 1-877-952-7277.
