The Abbotsford Police Department (AbbyPD) is on the scene of a crash on Saturday afternoon at the intersection of Whatcom Road and South Parallel Road. 

Police say that the incident involves a passenger vehicle and a motorcycle and occurred shortly before 2 p.m.

“AbbyPD patrol officers are currently on scene of a serious collision,” the department said in a written statement.

“The motorcyclist sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to hospital. The occupants of the SUV were shaken but were not injured.”

BC Emergency Health Services says that two ambulances responded to the scene, with paramedics providing emergency medical treatment to one patient.

Police add that the intersection is expected to remain shut down for several hours as an investigation has been launched.

“The investigation remains in its early stages, with assistance from the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS),” Abby PD said.

Whatcom Road is closed in both directions between Nelles Road and Highway 1, and South Parallel Road is closed between Cole Road and Angus Campbell Road.

Drivers are urged to avoid the area.
