Environment and Climate Change Canada has ended its earlier tornado watch warning for Prince George.

Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms which may produce tornadoes, says Environment Canada.

Strong winds, large hail and heavy rain are also possible.

Tornadoes are dangerous and potentially life-threatening, states Environment Canada.

“When we deal with the tornado, watch for areas around Prince George extending from Bear Lake down towards areas like Ferndale, Buckhorn and Blackwater. It means that those conditions in the atmosphere are favorable for a tornado to potentially develop,” said 1130 NewsRadio meteorologist, Carl Lam.

Significant damage or destruction to infrastructure, homes and the natural environment is possible.

“Now, if you do see a funnel cloud, you want to make sure you are going indoors and staying away from any windows. You want to go into the lowest portion of your home or go into a room with no windows like a bathroom. And then also grab a hat, grab a helmet to protect your head because you do not want to be impacted by any flying debris in case there are those really strong winds or even a tornado,” said Lam.

Leave mobile homes, vehicles, tents, trailers, and other temporary or free-standing shelter, and move to a strong building.

“There’s the potential for thunder, lightning, some really heavy downpours with this and of course damaging winds possible. There could be a few tornadoes and also some hail. So, this is a big concern, especially up in this area and we don’t deal with this type of active weather alert very much.”
