B.C. driver charged in high-speed collision in New Westminster

A man who drove his car into Burrard Inlet in a social media livestream event two years ago has been charged in a New Westminster crash.

On March 30, a high-speed collision near the intersection of 6th Avenue and McBride Boulevard took place between two vehicles.

One of the vehicles was travelling at such a high rate of speed that it flipped into some nearby hedges, landing on its roof.

“With the amount of damage these vehicles sustained, it’s a miracle no one was seriously hurt,” said Sgt. Jacquelyn Mula at the time.

“Based off the circumstances surrounding this collision, criminal charges are being considered.”

Court records now show that Jawad Mazen Fawwaz has been charged with one count of dangerous driving.

Fawwaz was previously charged with mischief under $5,000 for the social media stunt and sentenced to one year of probation.

Fawwaz has an extensive history of violation tickets under the Motor Vehicle Act.
