Air quality across Metro Vancouver has improved despite lingering hazy conditions, regional officials said Friday morning.

Metro Vancouver reported that air quality in the region and the Central Fraser Valley is now considered a low health risk according to the Air Quality Health Index (AQHI).

While wildfire smoke has begun to clear in those areas, the Eastern Fraser Valley remains at an AQHI rating of 4, which is classified as a moderate health risk.

Officials noted that air quality conditions can change rapidly depending on wind patterns and wildfire activity.

According to Metro Vancouver, conditions are expected to improve further throughout the day as coastal winds help push smoke east.

However, the Eastern Fraser Valley is expected to continue experiencing higher smoke concentrations due to being close to active wildfires in British Columbia and Washington state.

Residents are encouraged to monitor local air quality updates, particularly as wildfire conditions continue to evolve.
