A man is in hospital after a Friday night shooting in Whalley that police believe was targeted.

After a call near midnight Friday of a shooting, Surrey police found one man with a gunshot wound who was near a house in the 88 Ave and 127 Street area. He was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect had fled the scene prior to police arriving.
The shooting, despite being targeted, is not believed to be extortion related.
Statistics released by SPS in June show there have been 46 shootings in 2026, a 35 per cent increase from the same point last year.
