Police say the body of a 13-year-old girl who went missing on Cultus Lake while paddleboarding over the weekend has been recovered.
The RCMP says its Underwater Recovery team found the body shortly after 2 p.m. Monday.
“Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of the deceased,” says Cpl. Carmen Kiener of the Chilliwack RCMP.
“This is a heartbreaking outcome, and we are deeply sorry for their loss.”
Mounties say they first received a report of the missing girl — who was believed to have suffered a medical emergency before entering the water — shortly before 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
Police say she was not wearing a life jacket.
The investigation has now been turned over to the BC Coroners’ Service.
