Man charged after pulling knife on senior and stealing backpack in Vancouver

A 36-year-old man has been charged after allegedly threatening a senior with a knife and stealing his backpack in downtown Vancouver earlier this week.

The suspect, identified by police as Joshua Edward Adams, has been charged with assault with a weapon and theft under $5,000.

According to the Vancouver Police Department, the incident happened shortly after 11 a.m. on Sept. 9 near Davie and Cardero streets.

Police say Adams approached a 76-year-old man who was sitting on a coffee shop patio, pulled out a knife and took the man’s backpack before fleeing on foot.

A nearby witness called 911 and provided dispatchers with real-time updates on the suspect’s movements.

Officers were able to locate and arrest Adams a short time later.

Adams was taken to Vancouver Jail and has since been charged in connection with the incident.
