A 21-year-old Burnaby man has been arrested following an aggravated assault at North Island College’s residence buildings in Courtenay early Wednesday morning.

According to the RCMP, officers received multiple reports of an assault involving an edged weapon shortly before 1 a.m. on campus.

When police arrived, they located two injured victims and quickly identified and arrested a suspect.

The victims were taken to hospital for treatment and are expected to recover from their injuries.

The Comox Valley RCMP Major Crime Unit spent much of Wednesday at the college gathering evidence. Investigators from the Island District Forensic Identification Section were also called in to assist.

“The investigation remains in its early stages, and officers are working diligently to uncover all of the circumstances surrounding this disturbing incident,” said Cst. Monika Terragni of the Comox Valley RCMP.

Terragni said investigators are still working to determine the motive behind the assault.

The suspect remains in custody and is awaiting a court appearance.
