An 80-year-old cyclist has died after a hit-and-run crash, while a suspect driver has since been arrested and released pending further investigation.

Chilliwack RCMP say the female cyclist was struck at the intersection of Portage Avenue and Woodbine Street at about 6:00 p.m. Saturday and pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say a suspect vehicle has since been identified and seized.

An adult male driver was arrested but later released as the investigation continues.

Alcohol or drugs are not believed to have been factors in the crash.

Police are urging anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage of a burgundy/red 2021 Chevrolet Silverado crew cab seen near Portage Avenue, Woodbine Street, Hazel Street, Menzies Street or Yale Road around the time of the crash to call 604-792-4611 and reference file 2026-42122.
