A fatal residential fire in Maple Ridge on Tuesday morning has left one man dead.
Maple Ridge Fire Rescue (MRFR) crews responded to a house fire around 6:30 a.m. near 214th Street and 123rd Avenue.
“Upon arrival [we] found a single-family dwelling home on fire, fully involved, [with] smoke coming through the roof.” said Fire Chief Dave Samson. “[We] had to ensure fire didn’t spread to neighbouring foliage and houses.”
Samson said 25 firefighters responded to the scene.
The victim was located after firefighters removed a wall in one of the home’s bedrooms. Samson said the man was the sole occupant of the residence.
MRFR requested assistance from the Maple Ridge RCMP to help manage traffic and ensure public safety while firefighters battled the blaze.
The cause of the fire remains unknown and is under investigation by MRFR and the RCMP. The BC Coroners Service is also investigating the death.
Maple Ridge RCMP said no further information will be released at this time.
