The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) says one suspect has been charged after a teen was allegedly slashed in the face with a blade on Granville Street last month, and a second suspect remains at large.
On Aug. 8, police say the 19-year-old victim was out with friends on Granville Street near Smithe around 3:20 a.m. when two men approached them.
“During the encounter, a chain necklace was removed from the victim’s neck and he was slashed,” the VPD said Sept. 23.
“The victim suffered a five-inch slash that ran from the tip of his nose, beneath his eye, and ended near his eyebrow.”
On Sept. 29, police arrested a suspect in the Downtown Eastside. Later that day, investigators executed a search warrant at his home.
Twenty-nine-year-old Garret William Thomas has been charged with one count of robbery and one count of aggravated assault.
Thomas remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
Investigators have released a photo of the second suspect and are asking the public for help identifying him. Anyone with information is asked to call the VPD’s Major Crime Section at 604-717-2541.
